Finishing up blogging about the big ape commission. Using a bright yellow i put down a few thin layers of color on the brim and top of his hat, i wanted him to have some more vibrancy about him since the browns and green against the grey/black fur was going to be pretty dull!
I also base coated the guns in brass, the belt and holsters in dark leather brown and the holster tips in gold :)
Now that i had layers of all my colors and i knew what i wanted inked and what i didn't i got out the army painter and washed some ink over the guns, the poncho and the hat.
I used the same colors again for the first highlight and then mixed in a little beige (50/50) and highlighted in soft streaks for the poncho, sharp edges on the hat and gentle placing on the guns.
i tried to insinuate that the older metal on the guns was within the workings of the mechanisms, and the "easier to reach" bits had been polished shiny silver by mr apes fur.
I then dotted the eyes in.
Here he is below just before finished. The last thing i did was paint his face grey and highlight with a light grey. I then put on a greay wash and picked out the details with the light grey again. The cigar got a treatment of dark red to brigh red with orange and yellow spots and his hat got highlighted up to beige on the edges and a grey stripe (or strap) around the brim.
Just the fur to go and his nails before final pics.
