I finished the ape/cavemen soon after i began. they where so fun and so simple that i had a real blast giving them that extra little bit of character! When you are faced with a predominantly brown miniature set like this, with no metal or cloth it does seem extremely limiting but i managed to give the fur a few hues from brown to beige (through orange) and the skin has a beuatiful half ape/ half human color to it.
A flat black undercoat (it was quitea hard to get the black to cover the fur, hence some bits glimmered though, but i covered it up with more black and successive layers, by the time i got to varnishing it was completely gone.)
Flat dark brown all over the miniatures, the skin and weapon got a dry brush and the rest of the them (the fur) got a flat coat.
Here you can see the layer against the drybrush on the fur, weapon and skin.
The stone blades where given a dark grey layer then highlighted through light grey to white, they then got a brown wash for weathering.
Here the wash has been added, and the fur has had its second slightly redder coat (dry brush). This was followed with dark orange and then finally beige red on the crests and peaks of the muscles.
