With miniature commissions you often get the chance to paint something that might have passed completely under your radar. This here is one of those examples, yet i am so glad it finally came to surface in my world!
It has been a real joy to paint these simians with their dynamic poses and intuitive facial detail. I loved every minute and the creator should be proud of his sculpts and casts.
Many people don't realize that these independent casters often put out a product that FLAT OUT SHAMES games workshop and warzone and other big producers.
The cleanliness of independent casting is always something i am astonished and very pleased by.
ON WITH THE REVIEW!
LUICD EYE MINIATURES
(Relatively cheap for them being independant but a bit expensive for the size, also including postage means that most people who literally want one pack. likely won't purchase.)
(wonderful dynamic and brutal poses. love them)
(Great historical accuracy to the prehistoric simian image we all have in our heads, perhaps a little short, but in proportion).
(very little to no flash at all and trumps the casting quality of even the biggest manufacturers)
Working with the fur on these guys was an interesting challenge from the beginning. when something is 90% covered in fur you have to find unique ways to bring definition to the model, although it of course has muscle definition a lot of that wonderful sculpting work is "hidden" beneath the fur. To combat this i alternated my dry brushing technique between dark and light colors until i ended up on a soft beige which was only used on the most raised areas of the fur.
If i did these again i would attempt to approach the spears separately and to define them more individually against the brown of the rest of the models.
All in all, wonderful models, a great company with a big aspirations and i believe they will see them filled :)
TOTAL SCORE 4.6/ 5 - a bloody good score!
