Today me and a (complete wargaming newbie!) friend played the second playtest of City Grounds and had a stellar time!
The game was a two part scenario called the defence of Lesterheim written by myself and using the rules City Grounds, also by myself.
Both are available to download on this blog!
THE BATTLE REPORT
The first game took place on the city border's next to the ever revered but avoided chaos shrine of Daemontinios!
The human guards set up on the east side of the board in a spread formation ready to take on any onslaught that might come their way!
The first Daemon charged straight across the city and into close combat with one of the regular riflemen
Failing to inflict damage on his first turn this miniature made his movement rolls successfully but failed to attack, this means he is locked in combat (as per his original intention) but having failed his attacking actions, he counts as having run up to the enemy and having given up the other actions.
Another daemon charged the ranks
Again this daemon failed to wound with his Kick action but once again he is now locked in combat with (as above) hat man.
The final two daemons (still on the shrine) where still to activate! The closest daemon moved into cover behind the debris (a wise move when facing a rifle heavy force such as this!)
The final daemon (in the background in the picture above) then failed TWO of his actions, both causing the end of the daemons first turn, and sadly meaning, he cannot act upon his intended movements.
To begin their turn the humans returned the attack on the incoming daemons! causing one wound on the first ...
And after a quick smoking break...
Proceeded to move out across the board
BUUUTTTTTT- being that i'm a terrible gamer, even when playing my own games i lost the turn on the second miniature! rolling two fails i had to pass and we began a new turn.
Winning the initiative the daemons proceeded to assault the city, one daemon sprinted to the top of the tower (though i knew not why for he has no ranged attack). The two in combat continued attacking, head butting and kicking their way into the human ranks. the daemons lost the turn after this and the humans continued their defence of the shrine. The Human bodygaurd and captain managed to knock down the second daemon after MANY failed rolls!
To finish their turn a human rifleman who had a perfectly elevated position (negates cover) took a medium range shot at the daemon behind cover, who had been so since the beginning of the game. He missed, but he pissed off the daemon....
Now with the new turn the daemons won initiative and the previously hunted...became the hunter!
Following a few more feeble attacks on the daemons behalf they lost the turn again as one daemon attempted three attack actions...and failed them all!
With the new turn the humans returned the attack full force, one rifleman sneaked to the top of the tower and sat in waiting behind the daemon there waiting for a chance to slash at him and cause him to fall back an inch and consequently plummet to his death!
With the rest of the guards locked in combat they fought their hardest to put up a good defence. Sadly after only a few more rolls i lost the turn once again and the daemons continued to pillage!
Now! the daemon from before (tower dude) had his own ideas and given that this is a game wherein you can do ANYTHING i wasn't one to say no! The below picture better describes his intentions but in short
1. Jump 2" gap (4+ dificulty)
3. Brownnose (3+ and +1 damage) ... yes you heard it....daemon....brownnosing....a human guard....that's some nasty shit!
What with being such a mental idea, he sadly failed and consequently we moved onto the next and final turn!
first the "brownnose" target, now knowing of the daemons intentions moved out of range for the jump and charged back into combat at the start line.
Given that we where now in the 6th turn both teams had drawn this scenario! The state of things looked as such (below) when we finished this game! it was a very pleasurable and hilarious affair!
DEFENCE OF LESTERHEIM PART 1 conclusion
HUMAN LOSSES: 0
DAEMON LOSSES: 0
HUMAN TARGET ACHIEVED?: YES
DAEMON TARGET ACHIEVED?: YES
This was a great game and very balanced as you can see from the outcome! some major play test notes have been made, mostly in regards to combat and just HOW HARD it is to actually cause a wound.
Although we have completed the campaign i shall be posting part 2 tomorrow! So keep your eyes peeled and check back for more of - THE DEFENCE OF LESTERHEIM!
Read part two TOMORROW!
